Ascension youth in grades 6 through 12 are invited to take part in a wide range of activities during the months of June, July and August 2010! Wednesday, August 4th, 11:00am - 6:00pm, Chicago Cubs Baseball Game at Wrigley Field
Join us for a day at the ballpark as the Cubs take on the Milwaukee Brewers! The game starts at 1:20pm, and we will be taking public transportation to teh park and back. Cost is $15 per person (plus the cost of food in the park), and the permission slip is available by clicking here. Friends are definitely invited and welcome to join us! Space is limited, so please RSVP to Vanessa by Wednesday, July 28th if you're interested in attending the game!
Sunday, August 8th, 8:15am - 6:00pm, Lutheran Day @ Six Flags
The ELCA Metro Chicago Synod's Youth Ministry Network has organized this day for Chicago area youth and any members/friends of ELCA congregations to enjoy a day of roller coasters, water rides and Lutheran fellowship at Six Flags! Tickets are $26 and are limited; contact Vanessa to learn more. Youth interested in participating will meet @ 8:15am to depart from church and arrive at the park in time for the 9:30am 'Tailgate Worship' in the parking lot with youth from other area churches!
Wednesday, August 11th, 8:00pm, LYFE Sunset Cinema: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Invite a friend and bring your blanket/lawn chair to join us for our third outdoor movie of the season! The films based on the 7th and final Harry Potter book will be released this fall and next spring, so come join us for a fun night to catch-up with this 6th installment of the HP series. An assortment of movie snacks and drinks are provided!
Tuesday, August 17th, 4:00 - 7:00pm, volunteering @ A Just Harvest Soup Kitchen (ages 12+)
Five youth volunteers are needed to help again this month with food preparation and serving at this Rogers Park soup kitchen! Please sign-up in the Fellowship Hall or message Vanessa to indicate your interest in serving. A few Ascension families with confirmation or high school youth have gotten involved with this ministry during the past few summer months, so we invite you and your family to consider volunteering together for this great opportunity to love and serve people in need!
Saturday, August 21st, 7:30am - 4:30pm, volunteering with Habitat for Humanity (ages 16+)
Help build a house for a family in need with other Ascension members! Youth can volunteer for the full day (7:30am departure from church to begin at 8:00am, and finish at 4:00pm to arrive back at church by 4:30pm), or for half the day (either 7:30 - 12:30pm or 12:30 - 4:30pm). Let Vanessa know what time you're interested and able to volunteer so that transportation arrangements can be made. Find the necessary waiver forms online by clicking here for the 16-17 year old form or here for the 18 and older form. Don't forget your work gloves, sunscreen and bottle of water!
