It is a privilege and honor to be the pastor of this thriving church on the North Shore. It would be a gift to us if you would join us for worship, education, community engagement, and fellowship.
The center of our life together is Sunday worship. We are a liturgical church which celebrates Holy Communion each week. Our music, led by professional musicians and our gifted members young and old, is drawn from a variety of resources, weaving together well-known and new-to-us hymns and songs. I preach on the lectionary texts each week--keeping us in communication with other faith traditions and providing a broad reading of scripture.
Faith formation is central to our mission. Sunday morning finds us in study, offering classes for children, confirmation and high school youth, and a lively adult forum. Three opportunities for Bible study are offered during the week. We are exploring additional study opportunities, at other times and possibly in other venues.
Ascension is deeply engaged in our community, providing financial, material and volunteer support to local agencies that extend our ministry to those we might not otherwise meet. We host many community groups in our facility, and welcome others to take advantage of our beautiful, fully-accessible building and grounds.
Just as we gather around the Lord's Table during worship, we gather for fellowship and nourishment of body and soul after worship. They say that one mark of a congregation's health is the amount of time it takes to clear the building after an event. If that is the case, Ascension is wonderfully healthy--we linger long after every event, enjoying one another's company, making friends of those who were once strangers. In addition to more serious fellowship, we play broom ball, compete over chili, read books, meet for lunch, and find other opportunities to be together.
Our doors are always open. We share both our own joys and sorrows, and the needs of the world. We gather to be strengthened for service in the world. We pray God's peace for you.
In Christ, JoAnn A. Post, Pastor
