Chris Forte has been the guitarist at Ascension for 6 years, bringing a unique approach to music at worship and rounding out the talents of Mischa and Minkyoo. With an eclectic musical background, his guitar work adds touches of Jazz and Blues, as well as Folk and Pop.

Chris received a Bachelors of Music degree in Jazz Studies from Roosevelt University in 1998. While still a student at Roosevelt, Chris was playing professionally as the full time guitarist in Chicago’s longest running musical, Tony & Tina’s Wedding. He followed that role playing lead guitar with Blues and R&B group, Sam Cockrell & The Groove, touring the US, Canada and Europe, and sharing stages with such greats as: B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Koko Taylor, Lonnie Mack, and The Memphis Horns. In 2000, he won the Albert King Award for his guitar work, given by The Blues Foundation and Gibson Guitars. For over two decades, Chris has continued to perform frequently, and for over 12 years he has led his own band, The Forte Band, which currently performs mainly for weddings and corporate events. Chris’ diversity as a player and performer has included appearances on TV and radio, he has performed in clubs, festivals, musicals, and most recently one of his original songs, The Tomahawk, was featured on an episode of ABC TV’s Shark Tank. As well as being a performer, Chris is an Adjunct Professor at Columbia College, teaching guitar techniques classes, arranging for and directing a jazz guitar ensemble, and teaching private jazz and rock/fusion guitar lessons.

Chris enjoys bringing his diversity to the worship at Ascension weekly in joining on both hymns as well as contemporary or special music. In addition to his musical undertakings and achievements, Chris is a devoted family man, married for 9 years to his wife, Kristin, with 2 beautiful children he considers his life’s greatest accomplishments.
