Mischa and Minkyoo have been Ascension's Worship Leaders since 2004 and have a passion for inclusion of a wide variety of music and worship styles that exemplify God's diverse and ever-changing world.

Mischa attended Northwestern University for a Bachelor's in piano and went on to pursue a Masters and Doctorate in composition from Indiana University. Minkyoo earned her Bachelor’s degree from the Peabody Conservatory of Music and a Master’s degree from the Yale School of Music. She is currently a doctoral candidate in organ literature and music theory at Indiana University. In addition to providing music for both the liturgical and contemporary services, Mischa and Minkyoo direct a concert series at Ascension called One Tree, Many Branches, which has been host to a wide range of musical guests including the Soul Children of Chicago, the Chicago Civic Orchestra Percussion Trio, and saxophonist Timothy McAllister. Within the congregation, they lead several music ensembles that including adult choir, children's choir, handbells, and the contemporary worship team.

In addition to their activities at the church, Mischa and Minkyoo have active careers in their respective fields. Mischa is an accomplished composer and teacher. He has won top prizes in composition including the first prize in the American Composers Competition and the first prize Kaplan award from ASCAP’s Morton Gould Young Composers competition. He has been commissioned by ensembles such as the Minnesota Orchestra, the Pacific Symphony and the St. Olaf Band and has recordings available on the Crystal, Innova, ENF and American Modern Recording labels. He frequently utilizes his gift for composing in writing and arranging music for the church. Minkyoo is also active as an organist and a teacher. She was the first-place winner in the Region III young artist’s competition of the American Guild of Organists and a finalist in the AGO’s National Young Artist Competition in Organ Performance. She teaches organ, piano, and music theory at Trinity Christian College at Palos Heights. Mischa and Minkyoo met at Indiana Universtiy while pursuing their doctorates and were married in 2003. They currently live in Chicago with their son, Leo.
