Mission and Vision

Ascension is a family of people of all ages, stages of life and spiritual growth.  Our Mission is to:

Be the church of choice for those seeking to grow in relationship with God in a vibrant and progressive Lutheran faith community that cultivates excellence in music, education, and service to others.

We welcome you to Ascension. Come as you are. Be challenged. Leave changed. Come, Believe!

Our pastor is assisted by a staff of capable leaders in each of its three primary Ministries: Faith Formation, Community Engagement, Worship and Performance Arts. In addition, the church is supported by an active council and countless other lay leaders and volunteers who eagerly share their time and talents in support of the church and its ministries. Together they seek to help the Lutheran Church of the Ascension fulfill its Mission.

Our History
Rev. JoAnn Post accepted our call to become pastor in October, 2014. Come join us!

The Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Ascension celebrated its first worship service in the fall of 1958. Its first home was in the Hubbard Woods School, Winnetka, Illinois. In January, 1959, services moved to Sunset Ridge School in Northfield, Illinois. By September of that year, Ascension published its first newsletter called, "The Witness" - a publication that continues under this same name today. Early in 1960, Rev.
