Mission and Vision

Our Mission:

Compelled by God's love for all creation, we faithfully seek grace and mercy in a broken world.

As a congregation, we live this mission through:

Worship and the Arts

Joyfully praising God through worship, prayer, and music

Faith Formation

Creatively shaping disciples of all ages for lives of faith

Community Engagement

Intentionally partnering and generously sharing God’s gifts with those who strive for justice and peace

Church Operations

Wisely stewarding the physical, financial, and human resources entrusted to our care

We welcome you to Ascension. Come as you are. Be challenged. Leave changed. Come, Believe!

Our pastor is assisted by a staff of capable leaders in each of its three primary Ministries: Faith Formation, Community Engagement, Worship and Performance Arts. In addition, the church is supported by an active council and countless other lay leaders and volunteers who eagerly share their time and talents in support of the church and its ministries. Together they seek to help the Lutheran Church of the Ascension fulfill its Mission.

For more information about Ascension, please contact one of our staff members.

Rev. JoAnn Post accepted our call to become pastor in October, 2014. Come join us!

The Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Ascension celebrated its first worship service in the fall of 1958. Its first home was in the Hubbard Woods School, Winnetka, Illinois. By September of that year, Ascension published its first newsletter called, "The Witness" - a publication that continues under this same name today. Early in 1960, Rev. Dr. Harold Lohr was installed as the first pastor. Read More
