Mission and Vision

Ascension is a family of people of all ages, stages of life and spiritual growth whose Mission is to:
Know and Share the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Our Vision is: To Worship the Lord, Live by His Example, and Reach out Through His Love

We welcome you to share that mission with us because life is so big that not one of us is up to understanding it by ourselves - we need each other.

Our pastor is assisted by a staff of capable leaders in each of its three primary Ministries: Faith Formation, Community Engagement, Worship and Performance Arts. In addition, the church is supported by an active council and countless other lay leaders and volunteers who eagerly share their time and talents in support of the church and its ministries. Together they seek to help the Lutheran Church of the Ascension fulfill its Mission to "Know and Share the Good News of Jesus Christ." For more information about Ascension, please contact one of our staff members.

Rev. JoAnn Post accepted our call to become pastor in October, 2014. Come join us!

The Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Ascension celebrated its first worship service in the fall of 1958. Its first home was in the Hubbard Woods School, Winnetka, Illinois. In January, 1959, services moved to Sunset Ridge School in Northfield, Illinois. By September of that year, Ascension published its first newsletter called, "The Witness" - a publication that continues under this same name today. Early in 1960, Rev. Dr. Harold Lohr was installed as the first pastor. Read More
